# How do you handle backorders?

We may accept backorders on certain products that are out of stock but we know we will have more arriving to us within a reasonable timeframe. Because there is typically a longer processing time waiting for the product to arrive, you will be notified of the backorder on the product page and in your shopping cart. In some instances, you will also find an estimated ship date in your cart.

For partial backorders, when one of the items in your order is on backorder, we generally hold the entire order until it's ready to ship together. If you need to split the order, you can reach out to us before placing your order and we'd be happy to let you know your options.

Your payment will be charged when the order is placed, this will essentially put you in line once the item is back in stock. If you need to cancel a backorder at any time before shipping, simply contact us. If you have any questions, or concerns, or would like to get an idea of when we're expecting the product back in stock, please drop us a line.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.carbonfibergear.com/buying/backorders.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
